If you cast localized pyrokinesis first (the game doesn't consider the fire aura to be an attack) you can literally walk up to even the most powerful enemies, stand next to them for five seconds, and kill them while they just stand there. Photonic Redirection makes you invisible. Droid explosions, pyrokinetic monkeys, enemy grenades, everything becomes useless against you. Localized pyrokinesis gives you a damaging fire aura and makes you immune to explosions. Psi hypos give you 20 points each, so they become much more effective at healing than even med hypos. Cerebro-stimulated Regeneration is a borderline OP ability that let's you regen almost all of your health for 2 psi points. Pychoreflective screen is a dirt-cheap tier 1 skill that's pretty much always useful. Here's some psi abilities that are useful regardless of build: Going 100% Psi is extreme difficulty, but investing in Psi powers is still pretty useful if you know what to get.

Optionally you can get Tacticool for updated weapon models/textures, I'd personally ignore stuff like Rebirth which upgrade enemy models but in my opinion are not at all faithful to the original tone and also don't fit in with the rest of the content unlike the other mods.

After that I'd also recommend the Four Hundred mod for 100% faithful to the original texture upgrades (it doesn't go overboard with like 4K baked normal maps or anything, it still fits nicely with left over original content), SHTUP which upgrades various other objects and textures including animated displays, again very faithfully to the original, and Vurt's two model upgrade mods, one for the various plants throughout the game and one for other objects like the alien eggs, slime, etc., also very faithful and fitting with the original game. It's really not hard to manage all that stuff at all, it doesn't feel much more complex than say, Resident Evil 1 in practice, there's the odd section or two you might get stuck in but otherwise careful methodical play is rewarded with progress.Įveryone should use SS2Tool though, it brings a mod manager with it and otherwise patches and polishes the game up.

I mean, I dreaded some of the elements you mentioned before playing it and even looked around for mods that disable gear deterioration but after playing it I saw there's just an early learning curve and then you manage pretty easily as long as you ignore some objectively unbalanced stuff like the reportedly useless psi class (which I learned of its shortcomings after playing, I went with Navy anyway myself as it sounded like the simplest/best to start with). I wont lie Ive given myself some med packs and ammo on occasion (frickin assassins). If you like real Survival Horror that keeps you on your toes then I recommend it.
